Today is the day my soon-to-be-husband will come along with his parents. I'm not too fond of the idea of another man. It's not easy for me to accept it and move on. It took me years to build myself. It was painful, but all this was worth it. Maybe that heartbreak led me to be more mature. I get out of my trance after listening to the honeyed voice of my baby, Amaira. She is my only reason for survival, my only hope in the darkness. If she weren't here, then I wouldn't have survived.
"Mama!" My four-year-old daughter called out.
"Yes, baby?"
"Mama, someone is on the door."
"Baby, it's at the door, not on the door," I chuckled at her mistake.
"Okay, Mumma." Oh, my cute child.
It must be them, I guess. Before I could go and open the door, my little one already opened it.
I looked up to see a man with dark eyes, a sharp jawline, and a huge body, highlighting his presence. His eyes met mine and something sparked between us. Ignoring this strange sensation, I moved my gaze to the other woman present there, maybe his mother. I went towards and touched her feet. Instead, she pulled me out and hugged me. I smiled.
"Namaste, aunty."
"Namaste, beta." Her voice was soft and held warmth.
"Come aunty."I showed her the way and helped her to a seat on the couch where everyone was gathered. I then looked over at him and noticed that he was holding a little baby in his arms, which I hadn't seen before. The little one and he looked very cute together. That baby moved his gaze towards me and said," Mumm-"
Without hesitation, I replied, 'Yes, baby.'
His eyes softened and he moved his hands towards me, indicating me to take him. I looked over to his dad. He nodded and I took the baby in my hands.
"Mumm-"
He started crying.
"Shh- what happened to my baby? Huh? Why he is crying?"
"You are my baby, right? Do you want me to cry? huh?'
"Naaahh."
"Good Boy." I wiped his tears with my hand and pressed a kiss on his forehead. He may not be my child by blood, but I felt a deep connection with him. Sudden possessiveness ran through me and I held him close, giving a little peck on his forehead.
"Mumma?"
I looked towards my daughter.
"yes, baby?"
"Is he ma brother?"
"Yes, beta. He is your younger brother."
She grinned and looked at the baby with a huge smile.
Feeling a stare at me, I looked up. Only to see those dark eyes boring at me.
Neither of us removed our eyes from each other.
'beta, Advik liked you so much.' I smiled at that sentence and looked at 1.5 years 1.5-year-old baby in my hand. "So did I," I replied.
Both of the families started talking about the marriage that I didn't want.
"Beta, you and Rudra should go outside and talk." RUDRA. So his name was Rudra.
I looked at him and nodded.
"Mumma, I also want to come with you."
My little daughter demanded.
"Baby, you sit and play with your baby brother."
"Na, mumma. I wanna come.'
"Amair-"
Before I could say anything, he interrupted me.
"Let her come." I looked at him and then at my daughter. Shooking my head, I just whispered okay.
She went toward him and held his large hands in hers. He smiled, which was so beautiful, and held her in his arms. CUTE.
I waved my smile and followed after him.
"You know Dad, we should be in one time."
Amaira said making me laugh. But then I realized she called him Dad. Her Dad and my soon-to-be-husband. She is getting someone she always wanted. Rudra, he seems a nice guy and just because of my past I won't judge him.
I looked at her dad and saw his dark eyes shining.
Then he whispered,' Sure my little baby.' She giggled so did he.
They were looking cute together.
We both sat down on a bench and Amaira was still in his arms.
We didn't say anything.
"Umm-"
I tried to say anything but stuttered.
What was I supposed to say? Should I tell him I don't want any relationship with you? Should I say we should be friends? Oh friends? That tastes like shit. HUH.
When Amira got out of his arms and ran inside, he said.
"See, I am doing this marriage for Advik. Just for his happiness."
I smiled. I smiled at how similar we were.
"Well..guess what, we have something in common. I am doing this for Amaira.'
He sighed. Maybe feeling relieved.
"I will be a good daughter-in-law, mother but please don't expect me to be a good wife. Because I can't fake it."
"I understand that. I hope you expect the same from me.'
"And by the way, I loved Amara. She is cute."
I smiled. Maybe we weren't perfect for each other. But our child will get love from both of us and that's enough.
"She is. So is my baby, Advik."
He smiled and just nodded.
